Why Should We Grow Hydroponic Plant?
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, using only water and nutrients. This approach offers several benefits over traditional farming, including:
- No soil required: Hydroponics eliminates the need for soil, reducing the risk of soil-borne diseases and pests.
- 80% less water: Hydroponics can use up to 80% less water compared to conventional agriculture.
- No weeds: Since hydroponic systems are designed to prevent weeds, there’s less need for herbicides.
- Nutrient efficiency: Nutrients are delivered directly to the plant roots, improving nutrient uptake and minimizing fertilizer runoff.
- Faster growth: Plants grown hydroponically can grow up to twice as fast as those in traditional soil.
- Fewer pests: Hydroponic systems can be designed to minimize pest issues, reducing the need for pesticides.
Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia is actively promoting sustainability on campus by creating green spaces and adopting eco-friendly technologies. One such initiative is the development of hydroponic systems on campus.
The university has set up a special garden for hydroponic cultivation, managed by students and faculty from the Agrotechnology program. By advancing hydroponics, Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia is helping to protect the environment by conserving water and reducing pesticide and herbicide use.
